"Get Your Ass To Mars" - Douglas Quaid.

I fear for his life, I honestly do.

I love the smell of martian soil in the morning!

so the goal is Mars, right ??
what's the hell is Musk going to find on Mars, not found on earth ??
or perhaps tourism at $ 10 m the ticket, with no guaranty for return ...

This modell was tried by Henry Ford and it failed during the great depression. The problem is that the bigger your organization gets the less efficent it gets, also response times greatly suffer in this modell. I bet that in the next big economic downturn Tesla will break into smaller companies.

President Trump's edict to NASA to again put men on the Moon, 45 years after Eugene Cernan became the last person to have set foot on lunar soil, is a great decision for space enthusiasts. Before we set our sights on landing humans on Mars, we have to start with something "simpler", something we have already achieved. True, the Moon is a far less hostile environment than Mars, but we do have to take baby steps before we take a giant leap.

I really think they should set up a investment accounts for normal folks who want to support the future, we can all give $50 and with the 4mill people in LA 30+Million in California, invested to make money for us too.  He said he paid back all his loans with interest, where most default!  I can afford to invest 50-100 a month for the future and returns, and the small 50$ amounts would help keep out the elite and it could be funded by the public, and earn honest returns. Nikola Tesla was a genius and Mr. Musk  is too, and all endeavors should be beneficial to the entire population, not the select few! "free energy" genius i tell you..."There is enough on earth for everybody's need, but not enough for everybody's greed".-Ghandi

Elon Musk is a GOAT

I love these wendover videos, particularly for their independent thought. But for the sake of full transparency, you should make it clear when you are using your own conversation as advertising as a response to sponsorship. Your views are trusted and respected. You owe it to your listeners to be clear about the delineation between your own opinion, free of conflict, and when you state something, (even if it overlap with your views), for material gain. This in no way detracts from my appreciation of your efforts. I also understand that sponsorship is a necessity, and it is in the spirit of this reality that I offer this suggestion. Thanks

i dont understand how these "basic economics" would address things like the cost of healthcare, the fact that education puts people in debt, the fact that the job market sucks (low unemployment but everyone is working for shit wages).

Making products cheaper doesn't address these fundamental issues at all.

Problem with Elon Musk is that he's way too much of a dreamer. Here are some of the reasons why his projects are fiction and can't happen:

About Tesla: His car sales aren't doing that great, especially with the fact that Tesla cars cost at least $85K for one vehicle. Not only Tesla isn't doing that great, the problem is that his market is located in a place where it costs already a lot to produce electricity, which at least 70% of electricity is produced with non-regenerative ressources, which at least 40% of it in America is coal. Not only electricity costs a lot of money to produce in America, Tesla's market is mainly located in a place where gas prices are relatively low, in example $2,87 per U.S. gallon, compared to the rest of the world where it's like $2.00 per litre. Same thing in Canada: gas prices are around $2,87 to $4,00 per U.S. gallon. One fiction about Musk's car sales is that he wanted to reach the objective of making and selling at least 500,000 vehicles overall, as of 2017, but yet doesn't actually open car factories in Europe and Australia to fill the demand. However, if his factory was located in Quebec, which Musk himself even has the Canadian citizenship, where electricity costs the least in the world with the many dams built in the north, Tesla would have been in a far better state. If he did that, he would have saved millions of dollars of electicity, compared to where it is currently located in Palo Alto, CA, as Quebec is known to be the world leader in hydraulic energy and, if so, the world leader in green energy overall.

About SpaceX: if he wants to launch an ICBM to Mars to colonize the planet, he must, first of all, do it with the Moon. As Mars is already far enough, spending money to test one rocket is already risky enough to lose a lot. So by doing the same with the moon, it would cost 1000 times less to do a test with it. However, it would much likely only happen after 2030, due to the current economic state of the world

About The Boring Company: Most projects regarding public transit in America would unlikely happen, due to the strong car dependency and the NIMBY effect. Yes, Musk did a subway proposal in Los Angeles, but this would unlikely happen, due to communities that would oppose public transit expansion, fearing that crime will be brought to their neighborhood.

basic economics: socialism always fails

Why is this video not called Basic Elonomics?

This video could be called Andrew Carnegie's Basic economics. He did exactly the same thing for steel, which wasn't a consumer product at the time eighter. It became affordable by innovations in the manufacturing proces and vertical integration. He sold his bussiness for 480 million dollars, in the year 1900.

And I would like to add that this would be about 10 billion dollars today, making him worth about 100 billion dollars.

"Elon Musk does not want to make money with SpaceX" ...good...I guess...but he's not making any money with Tesla either and he has all his companies flirting with bankruptcy. So not sure how much you can burn capital in pursuit of vision if you don't make the money to back it up

Elon also supports citizens pay, he just hasnt been very vocal about that. As it becomes more and more of an issue, which it will, it will be interesting, to see how many of the alt right, young-conservatives that worship him continue to side with him.

Wow, that ULA 400 mil vs SpaceX 80 mil statistic is deeply misleading. Comparing the launch cost of ULA's entire fleet compared to the Falcon is disingenuous. The Delta heavy by virtue of the rocket it is will be much more expensive to launch. Compare the Atlas V single stick to the Falcon and the difference is still there but it is no where near 400 to 80 mil. Thats a very unfair comparison. You are also comparing military launch prices to Spacex's commercial launch prices, which is like comparing apples to oranges.
